Closing a trade manually

Exit a position yourself instead of waiting for the system's rules.

Written by Austin Bouley

You can close any open position yourself rather than waiting for the system's exit rules.

How to close a trade

  1. Open the system.

  2. Go to the Open tab in trade history.

  3. Find the position and click to close it.

  4. Confirm.

You'll see "Close request submitted. We are closing this trade." The status updates once your brokerage confirms the exit.

What happens

A closing order goes to your brokerage. Execution depends on market conditions — it isn't instant, and in illiquid conditions the fill may differ from what you saw on screen.

If markets are closed, the request queues until they reopen.

When you'd close manually

  • Taking profit before the system's target.

  • Cutting a loss before the stop is reached.

  • Freeing capital for something else.

  • Reducing exposure ahead of an event you're concerned about.

  • Clearing positions before disconnecting a brokerage or cancelling.

Effect on the system

Closing one trade doesn't disable the system. It continues operating and may open a new position on its next cycle — including one similar to what you just closed, if conditions qualify.

If you want it to stop opening positions, turn the system off in its settings.

Common problems

"Unable to close this trade. Please try again." — usually a temporary brokerage issue, or the market being closed. Wait and retry. If it's urgent and repeatedly failing, close the position directly at your brokerage — you always retain that ability.

Close requests are rate-limited — if you're closing several at once and hit the limit, wait a moment between them.

The status hasn't updated — confirmation depends on your brokerage. Give it a few minutes and refresh. Check your brokerage account directly if you're unsure whether it executed.
